Wyss Zurich. Building bridges between research, technology, and impact.
An identity for collaboration rather than separation. The founding of Wyss Zurich marked the emergence of a new, interdisciplinary research initiative at the intersection of medicine, technology, and entrepreneurship. The aim was to strengthen collaboration between the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich in the long term—and to translate research more quickly into socially effective innovations. Studio Blyss developed the visual identity for this initiative and supported Wyss Zurich over several years in communications, publications, and high-profile event formats.

-
Wyss Zurich was founded thanks to a generous philanthropic donation from Hansjörg Wyss – with a clear goal: to combine the institutional strengths of two leading universities. Medical research at the University of Zurich meets technological excellence, robotics, and engineering at ETH Zurich.
This constellation called for an independent identity that would not be perceived as a sub-brand of either ETH or the University of Zurich, but rather as a connecting platform. At the same time, the brand had to be internationally compatible, convey scientific credibility, and create space for entrepreneurship, start-ups, and accelerator programs. -
Studio Blyss developed the brand identity of Wyss Zurich from scratch. The goal was to create a visual language that structures complexity, makes cooperation visible, and builds trust—without academic heaviness.
In addition to the corporate design, we were responsible for the design of publications, communication materials, and the visual staging of annual events and premium events with high-profile international speakers and guests. The focus was always on balance: scientific precision, institutional clarity, and a contemporary, open design that promotes exchange.
The identity was designed to be sustainable over several years – modular, scalable, and flexible enough for different formats: from funding programs and accelerator initiatives to public events and internal formats. -
Wyss Zurich established itself as an independent, internationally recognized initiative at the intersection of research, technology, and translation. Its visual identity helped bring together a diverse range of stakeholders: researchers, start-ups, funding partners, institutions, and the general public.
Our work laid the creative foundation for communication and presentation during the development phase of Wyss Zurich. Studio Blyss is no longer responsible for the current look and website structure, but the brand itself still bears the hallmarks of this early phase: clear, unifying, and impact-oriented.
Identities for complex contexts.
When institutions, research, and entrepreneurship come together, design is needed that connects rather than simplifies. We develop visual systems that provide orientation—and are sustainable in the long term.
